Founded in 1927, the Electricity Supply Board (ESB) is a statutory corporation in the Republic of Ireland. It is 95 per cent owned by the Government of Ireland, with the remaining shares held by an employee share option trust.

ESB is a vertically integrated utility and it includes a number of divisions, which are ringfenced and operate independently in the electricity market. ESB Group employs approximately 7800 people. It is the leading Irish company in the energy utility sector.

ESB Power Generation owns and operates generating stations in the Republic of Ireland with an installed capacity totalling 4651MW.

ESB Customer Supply & Group Services

ESB Customer Supply operates as the Public Electricity Supplier offering a supply of electricity to over 2million mainly residential customer in the Republic of Ireland retail market on terms approved by the Commission for Energy Regulation (CER).

Group Services is responsible for a number of unregulated activities and internal services for the various business lines within the ESB Group including the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Group, ESB Telecoms Ltd, ESB Contracts Ltd and internal services for the ESB Group.

ESB Networks: is the owner of the high voltage transmission system and the owner and operator of the medium and lower voltage distribution system. It provides services to all electricity customers and all generators and suppliers of electricity in the Republic of Ireland.

ESB International (www.esbi.ie) is structured as a group of companies and consists of a range of businesses operating in the competitive market place. The key businesses are

ESB Independent Generation which is responsible for operating our renewables portfolio in Ireland and our international generation assets, primarily in the UK and Spain and ESB Independent Energy (www.esbie.ie) which provide competitive electricity solutions to customers.

ESBI Engineering which is an international engineering and consulting organisation which provides engineering and utility solutions to ESB Group and a wide range of international customers.

ESBI Facility Management provides power plant operation and maintenance services to ESBIG and to international customers.

General Smart Metering Updates

Feb 09 – Electricity Supply Board (ESB), Ireland’s largest energy company, will use ClickSoftware’s ClickSchedule workforce optimization software to streamline meter installation, replacement, and other service for millions of customers. ESB will integrate ClickSchedule with its SAP platform to automate the scheduling of its 500 field technicians.
