The market is structured with the Regulator acting as the system operator and gas transporter.
For electricity the market is structured with:
- Generators
- Tranmission – national monopoly owned by PowerGrid
- Retail
With support provided by licensed electricity field staff, and the SP Services Ltd company providing meter reading and billing services to all customers.
Competition in retail is currently only open to large consumers.
For gas there are manufactured gas retailers, natural gas retailers and licensed gas service workers.
Gas will be fully competitive once the conversion from town gas to a national transmission system has been completed.
